There are a variety of options to setup and use Duo.  Please review them below.


Using Duo with the Mobile App

 Details on the Duo app...

The app works over Wi-Fi and cellular networks offering a simple Approve/Deny or Passcode generator option.

  • Push notification- Easy Approve/Deny notification on your phone No need to type in a six digit code. 
  • Passcode - the app can generate a numeric passcode that you can enter when prompted by Duo
  • No text charges using the app - The SMS option limits you to cellular network connections only (where data and roaming rates may occur).  Please note that if you select SMS and do not have a cellular signal, you will not be able to authenticate and gain access.

For your convenience check the "Remember me for 30 days" box to have Duo remember your device/browser.

Using Duo with any Cell Phone or Landline

 Details on using Duo via phone...
  • The SMS option limits you to cellular network connections only (where data and roaming rates may occur).  Please note that if you select SMS and do not have a cellular signal, you will not be able to authenticate and gain access.
  • If your phone does not support apps, you can enroll it in Duo as a "Landline".  The University is only allocated so many uses of every multi-factor call or text sent. Please limit your use of this option.
  • If you are unable to use the mobile app, for your convenience check the "Remember me for 30 days" box to have Duo remember your device/browser.

What if I don't have a mobile phone or device?

Duo offers additional options besides the app, SMS text, or phone call such as physical hardware tokens.

  • Duo Hardware tokens can attach to your keychain and generate a code for you to use at the Duo prompt.
  • We may be able to assist you in acquiring a Duo token to use.
  • When using a token, for your convenience check the "Remember me for 30 days" box to have Duo remember your device/browser.
