Origin
ITS has received reports from faculty and students that they are not able to reply to email that was sent from the Blackboard system.
Issue Description
When an Announcement is posted in a Blackboard course and the Instructor selects the check box for Send a copy of this announcement immediately, the system will send the Announcement to the email address of students enrolled in the course. In some cases, when the student attempts reply to the message, their reply cannot be delivered. This is because the Blackboard system sends email in accordance with widely accepted security protocol intended to assure the identify of email senders.
In this case, Blackboard inserts the email address "do-not-reply@albany.edu" in the From field of the email header, but the Instructor's email address in the Reply-to field of the email header. So, recipients of such emails that contain "do-not-reply@albany.edu" in the From field, and whose email client does not use the Reply-to field that contains the Instructor (individual sender) email address, are not able to reply to them. One example of such an email client is Windows 10 Mail.
