$LAB storage is encrypted at rest, compressed, de-duplicated, and is backed up via "snapshot" daily for 21 days and hourly for the past 23 hours. Faculty are not charged for "snapshots", and they are not included in the 10 TiB allocation. A second copy of $LAB is also stored in a secondary location. The storage may be accessed from any computer on campus, and off campus access is provided via the VPN. $LAB is also mounted to, and accessible from, the general purpose cluster.

All faculty researchers have access to 10TiB of NFS mounted disk space, referred to as $LAB directory. Faculty may request a $LAB directory via the Research Storage Request Form

Direct-cost Grant Offering

Faculty who would like to purchase bulk $LAB storage as a direct-cost to grant funding, should schedule a consultation with during grant preparation. Faculty are expected to budget $110 per TiB per year and detail in their storage management plan how the data will be stored after the grant is complete. RTS will provide a statement of support that is consistent with the data management plan. Upon the grant's funding, the faculty member must provide billing information to ITS, and storage will be allocated upon payment. All storage is reclaimed upon the grants completion.
