UAlbany procedures for Blackboard Learn service delivery.

Blackboard Administration Procedures

ITS procedures for delivering and maintaining the Blackboard Learn application, including user accounts, course creation and management, enrollment, system maintenance, and application updates.

System Extensions and Tools

Building Blocks are Add-ons that can be installed in Blackboard to add or update various features.  Sometimes Building Blocks are developed - by both Blackboard, Inc. and/or third party developers - to provide functionality that does not exist in the core software.  Building Blocks can facilitate third-party system integration such as enabling iClicker points upload to the Grade Center or connecting Blackboard and the Library’s electronic reserves system.

Technical Infrastructure

UAlbany’s Blackboard system is “self-hosted,” meaning that campus staff in Information Technology Services are responsible for installing and maintaining the on-campus server infrastructure on which Blackboard operates.  The infrastructure is housed in the on-campus data center.  ITS staff also manage the systems software and database components as well as the several processes involved in ensuring good system performance and capability (such as system backup and PeopleSoft data integration).
