When University-managed computers reconnect to the campus network after an extended absence, they must process any new updates and patches. Minimize disruptions to your work by following these recommendations:
- Update your computer
- Windows: Leave your computer on when it is connected to the campus network for several weeks. This maximizes the opportunity for your computer to process updates and patches, increasing the likelihood that this will occur during non-work hours.
- Check your computer's energy settings to be sure you can receive the updates.
- Mac: Update University-owned Macs to the most current operating system and all applications unless you have been instructed otherwise by your departmental Technology Coordinator.
- Windows: Leave your computer on when it is connected to the campus network for several weeks. This maximizes the opportunity for your computer to process updates and patches, increasing the likelihood that this will occur during non-work hours.
- Save your work regularly, as some updates may force computers to restart unexpectedly. Save often to minimize the risk of losing your work.
- ITS strongly recommends saving your work on OneDrive for Business, which allows you to easily retrieve and share files no matter where you or your colleagues are working.
