Action

When you get a new iPhone, you need to move your Duo Mobile account from your old phone to your new phone.
To make the Duo account transfer as smooth as possible, you must set up Instant Restore and back up your Duo account information to the iCloud account associated with the Apple ID you use with your iPhone. You must use the same Apple ID on your new iPhone to transfer your Duo account to the new device.

To transfer none Duo mobile 2fA accounts to your new device, visit Duo Restore for iOS.

Use the instructions below to set up Instant Restore to simplify moving your Duo Mobile when you get your new phone. You need to set up Duo Instant Restore before you get your new iPhone.

Instructions

Setting up Instant Restore

  1. Verify that you are running the latest version of Duo Mobile on your device. Instant Restore requires Duo Mobile version 3.33.0 or later. Visit the App Store and upgrade Duo Mobile if it isn't the latest version. Visit How to manually update apps on your Apple device for manual app update instructions.

  2. Backup your iPhone to iCloud with iCloud keychain enabled. Keychain must be enabled before performing the backup.
    Note: If this is your first backup or you haven't backed up in a while, depending on the amount of data you are backing up and your connection speed, your backup time could take between 30 minutes and two hours.

Restore your Duo Mobile account on your new Phone

Perform the following steps to restore your Duo Mobile account to your new iPhone:

  1. From your new iPhone, sign in to iCloud and restore the phone from iCloud.

  2. Enable iCloud keychain.

  3. Install Duo Mobile from the AppStore.

  4. Open Duo Mobile.

  5. Tap Get Started on the "Welcome Back" screen.

    Duo Mobile will locate your backed-up Duo Mobile account and restore it to your new device.
    A success message will display when the Duo Mobile account is restored on the new device. 




  6.  Duo will send a notification to your old phone indicating that your Duo Mobile account has been activated on a new phone. 

    Note: You do not need to have possession of your old phone for this step. 

    • If you didn't perform a restore to a new device, tap Report as Fraud.  This will deactivate your Duo accounts on both devices and alerts your organization's Duo administrators about the fraudulent reactivation.

    • If you did the restore, which you just did, tap This is not fraud to dismiss the notification.  

Additional Information

You cannot use Instant Restore to transfer a Duo account from an Android phone to an iPhone and vice-versa.
