Instructions for installing VPN

  1. Open a web browser and go to http://vpn.albany.edu
  2. Enter your NetID and password and click Login.

    Use the same authentication credentials (NetID/Password) you enter on your University computer to connect to the campus network.

  3. The VPN client will begin the installation process.

    • If you get a Security Warning from Java, click Run.
    • If you get prompted by User Account Control window to allow the installation, click Yes.
    • If you get prompted to enter your computer's administrative credentials to allow the installation, enter them and click OK.

  4. Installation should now complete and your VPN connection should automatically connect.

    If the automatic installation and connection process does not complete successfully, follow the steps below to complete the installation manually.

    1. When prompted, select Download for the installation file (the appropriate link will be provided for Windows or Max OS X). Once the download completes, Run the saved file.
    2. Complete the installation process.
    3. Run the VPN client by going to Start > All Programs > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (Windows) or Applications > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (Mac OSX)
    4. For first time use, you will need to enter the VPN server address, vpn.albany.edu before clicking Connect.

    5. When prompted, enter your NetID and password, and click Connect to establish a VPN session.
  5. You can close your browser. When running, the AnyConnect icon for the VPN client appears the notification area at the lower right (Windows) or the upper right (Mac OS X).

Connecting Again to VPN

  1. Run the VPN client by going to Start > All Programs > Cisco > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (Windows) or Applications > Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client (Mac OSX)
  2. When prompted, enter your NetID and password, and click Connect.

  3. The AnyConnect icon for the VPN session will be minimized in the notification area at the lower right (Windows) or the upper right (Mac OS X).

Disconnecting from VPN

  1. Before disconnecting, save and close any files or programs you were using during the VPN session.

  2. Select the AnyConnect icon in the notification area at the lower right (Windows) or the upper right (Mac OS X) to maximize the VPN application.

  3. Click Disconnect to end the VPN session.
