On August 21, 2019 ITS will update our Blackboard system including feature enhancements and additions. Complete Release Notes and notable feature enhancements or additions are described below.
Highlights of new features:
Many instructors use attendance data as part of their students' overall grades. Also, some institutions and programs have attendance policies that require instructors to track the number of class meetings students have missed. For each class meeting, instructors can mark whether a student is present, late, absent, or excused. The attendance records for each student appear in a single column next to other grades. On the Attendance page, profile pictures appear so instructors can easily identify students.
Cloud Storage Integration
Instructors can copy files from their favorite cloud storage solutions when authoring Content Items or creating Assignments. Students can submit assignments from their favorite cloud storage solutions. Cloud storage that is supported includes OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, Google Drive including G suite accounts, Dropbox, and Box.
Create Recording for Feedback
An instructor or grader can create personalized feedback recordings for individual gradable item attempts or manual gradebook items. Each recording can be up to 5 minutes long and can be both video and audio. Videos are stored in the cloud and do not utilize hosting storage allocation or local storage.
Highlights of functional improvements:
- Download Annotated PDF from Assignment
Users were accustomed to downloading annotated files when using the assignment annotation utility (Crocodoc). With the switch to the new annotation utility (New Box View), this capability wasn’t available and highly requested. Blackboard developed the ability to download annotated files using the New Box View. In this release, both instructors and students can download certain file types (DOC, DOCX, PDF, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX) with annotations as an annotated PDF. Students can download the annotated file after their submission has been graded.
- Grading in Mobile App
This upgrade provides support for grading in Blackboard Instructor. Instructors and graders can now easily identify courses where they need to grade student submissions. They can review, annotate, and grade submissions and quickly publish the grades back to students.
- Discussion Board - "Replies to Me"
This upgrade enable users to see how many replies to their discussion posts exist in the Discussion Forum. This displays as a number in the Replies to Me column, right next to Unread Posts. Click on the number and all reply posts are displayed on screen for aggregated viewing and further interaction.
Complete Release Notes:
This upgrade included new features, enhancements, and updates in both the Q4 2017 and Q2 2018 releases of Blackboard Learn.
