 All ITS online services will be available throughout the Intersession Energy Savings Initiative.  ITS resumes routine operations on January 5, 2015.

During the Red Zone/Limited Operations Period: December 19, 2014 - January 4, 2015 

  • All walk-in services at the ITS HelpDesk (LC 27) will be unavailable. 

  • For assistance, submit a Service Desk request or call (518) 442-3700. See ITS Intersession Hours for details on our hours of operation.

  • ITS will close at 12:00 PM on December 24 and 31, 2014 and be closed on December 25, 2014 and January 1, 2015.

  • The University switchboard will be closed. Automated directory service will be available.

Think Lync! Connect with colleagues using this new service:

Lync is a great way to stay connected with colleagues no matter where you're working. Use Lync for IM, make voice or video calls, or schedule an online meeting.

Working from the University Library:

University employees may choose to work on the first floor group study areas in the Main University Library. Most web-based campus services can be accessed using the PCs in the Information Commons.

  • Access One Drive for Business from anywhere with an Internet connection.
  • Personal and departmental shares (also known as the U: and V: drives) map automatically when you log in to any Information Commons PC with your NetID and password.
  • UAlbany WiFi is available throughout the Library. Bring your laptop and go wireless!
  • Access UAlbany Mail from MyUAlbany, the ITS homepage, or via https://mail.albany.edu.
  • Need to print? Purchase a Library Department Card and use our UniPrint service. For more information, call Library Accounting at 442-3572.

Working from off-campus locations:

  • Most University IT services are available via the Internet from off-campus locations.
  • Access One Drive for Business from anywhere with an Internet connection.
  • Employees can download and use Virtual Private Network (VPN), which provides secure off-campus access to Windows network shares. Your Technology Coordinator can help you install this on University-owned equipment. Employees planning to work from off-campus locations will need their NetID, password and the path(s) for mapping a network drive(s).
  • Change your voicemail greeting to reflect office operations during this period. Instructions are available for call forwarding and accessing voicemail from out-of-office locations.

Tips:

  • Working at an alternate location?  Plan ahead. ITS recommends testing access to the IT services you plan to use before December 19th.
  • Do you know where your documents are?  If you plan to work in an alternate location, identify the paths for all network drives you need to access. ITS is unable to assist you with the location of specific files.
  • Who is checking your departmental UAlbany Mail account?  If your office uses a generic mailbox (such as cio@albany.edu), make sure you know its display name or email address so you can check messages via Outlook Web App.  Alternatively, you can  set an auto reply or out-of-office message.
  • Do you need the bookmarks on your PC? If so, copy and save them on One Drive for Business so you can access them from another computer.
  • Have you done your part to conserve energy?  Be sure to turn off all electronic devices in your office when not in use.
